Interesting 1969 Plymouth Promo Picture



This appears to be a test layout for an auto show display. A few interesting things of note: First, note the signage indicating that the Road Runner was Motor Trend's Car of the Year. This was in 1969. However, there were no c-body promos in '69 (and no b-bodies in '68) so clearly the c-bodies are '68 promos. Also, if you enlarge the photo, check out the cars near her left hand. Two have custom paint jobs, and one has had the roof shaved off.



NOS Case of 1971 Road Runners



What a find! An NOS case of 1971 Road Runner promos picked up at a local estate sale in Michigan in 2024. There was another partial case which ended up on Ebay. I never find anything cool at estate sales.



Unfortunately this case of Road Runners doesn't belong to me, but to a fellow collector instead.



White 1970 Challenger



This one belongs to Roger Gilmore and he graciously shared these photos. If you do a Google search, this car will pop up but with a partial set of stickers attached. Roger purchased this on Ebay several years back, and cleaned it up quite a bit.



A truly great looking promo



He's seen a picture of one other, but it didn't have the original box. So there are at least two. Anyone else have one or know of one?



And then there were three......This one popped up in a Facebook group dedicated to promo models in May 2020, then quickly found its way to Ebay. I spoke to the owner who first listed it on Ebay. He bought it (presumably quite cheaply) at a storage unit clean out sale, as he described it "sitting on a pile of junk". Condition is good- scratched windshield, sligthly UV faded passenger side, small gash on roof.



Note the Drivers Education stickers. Most (all?) Mopar driver's ed cars where white. I've seen white '70 GTX driver's ed cars, and white '68 Coronets. It's quite possible the stickers were removed from Roger's car.


And white '70 Chargers? Roger knows of two, both without boxes. One he saw at a toy show in Toledo years ago, and it was missing the exhaust tips. He saw a photo of the other, which is in the hands of a collector. Anyone else have one?



Massive Mopar Promo Collection



One of the members of a promo group on Facebook posted photos of this collection he attempted to buy in 2021. It didn't work out.



I had the good fortune to talk with the owner of the collection. He's decided to liquidate it via Ebay, and started doing so in the Spring of 2022. Time to enjoy the grandkids!



Part of the collection was accumulated in the early 70's as his friend's family had a Plymouth dealership. More were accumulated around 2000 when the family that owned the dealership gifted him some cars and other memorabilia. The rest was added in the early 2000's.



For those of us who've been around awhile, the good news here is that the owner is a died-in-the-wool Mopar guy and has been all his life, not some millenial techie with super deep pockets (sorry if that offends you millenials but the rest of us understand what I mean here).



Seeing giant collections like this is very humbling for me.



Purple '69 GTX



For those in the know, Plymouth didn't offer "In Violet" on any of it's cars until 1970. And this color wasn't available on '69 or '70 GTX promos either. The car is clearly a legitimate promo and came from the estate of a Plymouth product planner. Perhaps a gift from Plymouth or Jo-Han? Likely one of a kind.......



.............. or maybe not? Ignore the Torino promo, and check out this box. There were apparently at least two of these purple met. '69 GTXs made.



Another odd-ball '69 GTX box and color. Again, ignore the Mustang. There were no regular orange '69 GTX promos. Anyone have a "Monaco Orange" '69 GTX? Thanks to Jan Saalberg for these images. 



Here's another box of that same style. Note that the normal white for '69 GTX's was "Alpine White". So, we have extremely rare plain white '69 GTX boxes with colors and names that are outside the norm. Can anyone help solve the mystery? Thanks to Steve Engeman for the photo



Case of '70 GTX's



This comes courtesy of collector Jon Saalberg. They were originally shipped to Petty Enterprises.



Interesting to note that this was not shipped from Jo-Han, but from Helm. Helm is an automotive marketing company that is still around.

This is exactly how I found it at the local Salvation Army Thrift Store.


In my dreams. This box belongs to Roger Gilmore and I appreciate him sharing it with us. Here it is with his Cuda collection. That's a really nice picture.



Here's another one from Roger's collection. They must have run out of the cool "MPC IS HAPPENING" tape, or maybe they were just cutting costs.
