Dodge Promo Model Collection



Still have have some large gaps in the collection, especially '66 Chargers and '68 Coronets.



1966 Dodge



1966 Charger



These were also available in Bronze, Red, and Black. Black is quite rare. There were also a few non-painted colors available- gray, tan, and blue. To date everyone I've spoken with regarding the blue cars has only seen them in plain boxes. Not common to find these in the other colors with boxes either.

Yellow and silver metallic. Like the c-bodies, most of the '66 Charger promos had silver detailed exhaust. While not positive about this, I believe the non-dealer promos came with body color exhausts.

These are the original shipping boxes for the red and blue '67 Chargers. The promos are in exceptional condition. I doubt these were shipped to a child at Christmas.

Bermuda Turquoise. All '67 Chargers I have seen have very feint box stampings.

Dark Green and Medium Copper. These two cars came from a case of NOS models. Absolutely mint. Even the tissue paper was molded cleanly to the cars. Box flaps are super crisp. I've also seen these in Tiger Gold and White.



1968 Dodge

These came from the estate of a former Dodge dealer in Illinois (Evanston Dodge City in Evanston). They have never been played with and probably have only been out of the box a few times. Original tissue and decals included. Exceptionally nice promos.

'68 Chargers also came in Green (super dark- almost looks black in photos) and red. I've only seen one red car with a box since I've been doing this. Green seems to be the most common. Also of note is that with the exception of a very small handful of 1970 Challengers (and maybe Chargers?), 1968 was the last year for white Dodge promos. Also I've seen a small handful of '68 Chargers in plain white boxes.

1968 Coronets also came in red, green, and blue. Blue is quite rare.

The bronze car has an odd factory flaw. The driver's seat was installed in a forward position. At first I thought someone had modified the car and glued the seat in forward of where it should be. However, I removed the chassis and clearly the tub has never been out. Very strange. Then I got the white car. On this car the driver's seat is slightly behind the passenger seat. Go figure.

These two cars are NOS. I suspect the first time they were ever out of the box was for these photos. These are all the available colors for '69 Chargers.

This is an original MPC shipping box for '69 Chargers. The box held 12 vertically stacked promos. On the other side of the box it says "1 of 6". I wonder what else they got in this shipment?

The yellow and bronze cars came from this case.

From the original case I picked up two Bronze, two Yellow, a red, and an Olive Green- all NOS. The seller had several other Chargers from the same case, but I was too cheap at the time to get them. Big regret. I didn't make the same mistake the next time around. See '72 Chargers below.




1969 Coronet



The blue Coronet came from a guy in Switzerland. It's one of my nicest cars. Mint box, mint stickers, mint tissue, mint car.  The turquoise car has a very small factory paint blemish on the front fender- again somewhat common on painted MPC cars of the era.

Olive Green. '69 Coronets were also available in Yellow. They produced the convertible in 3 colors from the factory- olive green, yellow, and red.

Sublime and Plum Crazy. The Plum Crazy car came with a mint blue '72 Challenger shipped in the same package. When the package showed up on my doorstep one side of it was crushed. You can imagine my trepidation and sense of doom as I peeled it open. Thankfully it was a '72 Challenger that got destroyed.

Bright Blue and Go Mango. The blue car is one of my favorites. Super clean and great color. I've also seen only one in White with the original box. See the "Rare and Unusual Mopar Promos" section for pictures of one.

1970 Challenger Sheaffer pen set



Over the years I’ve seen several Mopar promos with holes drilled in the chassis. I’ve known about the Sheaffer pen sets for some time, but have never actually seen one. Presumably most of the “drilled” promos I’ve seen came as part of one of these sets. I was fortunate to recently pick this one up.

It came from a small family owned dealership in Pennsylvania- Souderton Dodge, which was in business from 1948-2001. The dealership, and the pen set, belonged to the grandfather of the guy I got this from. He told me it sat on PopPop’s desk for years. It was really rough when it arrived, but with a lot of elbow grease it cleaned up nicely. Believe it or not I was able to find NOS Sheaffer pens to finish it off.

This is how it looked when the guy shipped it to me. Both rear wheels were broken off, bumper chrome was bad, and there were scratches all over. Thankfully no cracks. It was a labor of love but it turned out nice.

You’ll note the ad (in addition to confusing ‘71 Chargers and ‘72 Road Runners) mentions an “engraving plate for personalizing”. Unfortunately this one was never engraved. These weren't cheap: $16.95 in 1972 would cost $132.30 in 2025.

'70 Chargers were also available in Plum Crazy. A very small handful were produced in white. While I've never seen one, a reliable Mopar promo expert has reported seeing at least two.

The orange car is one of the nicest I have. Probably only been out of the box a few times. Mint box, mint stickers, mint tissue paper.

The Plumb car is my nicest purple Mopar in terms of finish. I would say near perfect paint. Mint box, tissue, and decals as well. When I first opened the box the tissue was still folded neatly around the car. I suspect I was the first to ever take it out of the box.

Brite Red and Green Go. '71 Challengers also came in Brite Blue. However, I've only seen these in plain white boxes.

Careful handling the dark blue cars. I've heard multiple horror stories of cars shattering to the touch. Note that the '71 Challenger is "Hemi Orange" but the '71 Charger is simply "Orange".

When I got the Plum Crazy car some moron had affixed the Challenger stickers to it. I was quite nervous about removing them but it turned out OK.

Green Go and Citronyella. These are all the colors for '71 Chargers. I've always wondered why the '70 GTX and '71 Roadrunner promos came with the air grabber hood, but the '71 Chargers did not. The promos have the standard louvered hood. Also note that the '71 Challenger is "Hemi Orange" but the '71 Charger is simply "Orange". Some '71 Plymouth b-bodies came with raised white letter tires, but I've never seen a '71 Charger with them.



1971 Charger Bobby Allison Coca Cola Car



This is the 1971 Coca Cola Bobby Allison Charger. Also includes the original shipping box. Car is in great shape overall, but the paint on most of these leaves a lot to be desired. This car at one time belonged to a Coca Cola VP, and if you look carefully at the box it is signed by Bobby Allison. While these aren't super rare, finding one in this condition is more challenging. Anyone have an ad for these cars? How would someone have gotten one in 1971?

I generally only collect cars up to '72, but somehow I ended up with these twins. They are absolutely beautiful. Quite stunning actually. Great color. '73 Chargers and Challengers are fairly common promos. They also came in Dark Amber, Light Blue, Mist Green, Lemon Twist, and Bright Red.
