This page features rare or unusual literature from my personal collection. I will try to update this page regularly.
1968 Dodge Show Car Press Kits
Press kits for three popular show cars: Daroo I, Daroo II, and Charger III
Dodge says "Daroo" is an old Anglo- Saxon word for "Dart". Other sources say it means "gunpowder". Dart makes more sense!
The kit comes with 2 press photos and a few pages of press release information.
And looking a little less wild is the Daroo II.
This kit also comes with two press release photos and a few pages of information.
The 1968 Charger III is a really cool car. Too bad it didn't make it into production!
This kit comes with four press photos and several pages of press release information.
1967 R/T Dealer-Only Brochure
Not super rare but not commonly seen. This is a dealer-only brochure for the '67 R/T
It's a tri-fold.
When the far right page is folded over, the taillight beams connect. Kind of a cool image.
Back cover.
Cases of Matchbooks
The '69 Dodge case is complete. There are four different matchbooks- A, B, and C bodies, and the Scat Pack. The '66 Plymouth case is also complete. It features the full line on one side and the Fury on the other.
At least through 1972 Mopar used Universal Match Corporation to supply matchbooks. In 1970 and 1971 they also used Lion Match Company. I have most beginning in the mid 60's. However, I've been fortunate enough to acquire a few full or partial cases over the years.
The '69 Imperial and '69 Fury cases are only partially complete.
The cover sets the tone for this sorry brochure. We generally don't associate Newports, New Yorkers, and wagons with performance. Clearly this brochure was pasted together by someone who was quite ignorant of the market for these cars.
In 1970 there were over a million young men serving around the world in the military, many of course in Southeast Asia. Chrysler had a program to make it easy for them to purchase cars, either to be delivered overseas or picked up stateside. I wonder if you could get a Hemi Cuda delivered to Saigon?
The Swinger 340 and Charger page shows the interior of an E-body. The only cool thing about this brochure is that the pictures are different than the ones found in the regular brochure for each of these models.
This page might be the worst. Cool Challenger convertible. Love the wheelcovers. Notice, however, the interior photo of a B-body, the instrument panel of an A-body, and a B-body console.
Other than the wagon demonstrating the use of windshield wipers on the Roadrunner and Barracuda page, this page isn't so bad. Whose idea was it to put the wagon on this page? Note the wheels and rear panel on this early production Cuda. I've seen pics of this car in other early information about the '70 Cuda.
There's that wagon again. Some subliminal message here- "Don't buy a hi-po car- buy a wagon buy a wagon buy a wagon" And of course they show the super rare option of an E-body interior available in a GTX. Cool color for the GTX by the way. Not sure I've ever seen a gold one.
This page isn't so bad, except for the ultra-rare 340 option in a Super Bee or R/T. How many of those have you seen?
Where were the editors?
This brochure is actually pretty rare. I've only seen a few. Probably best that way.
1968 Superbee Dealer-Only Brochure
I've searched long and hard for this one. One slipped through my hands about 10 years ago.
It'a a large foldout. The Superbee came out mid-year and hence is not in the regular 1968 Coronet brochure. The only literature specific to the Superbee is this very cool dealer only foldout. It is a large 11x11.
Back cover.
1970 Scat Pack Club Membership Kit
Not sure if this is complete, but I'll describe it's contents. Please let me know if you have one and it includes something that mine does not.
Envelope has a postmark of October 16, 1969. Envelope is rough.
Kit includes a membership card, bumper sticker, and patch.
Includes the October 1969 issue of Dodge Performance News. This is a four page news magazine. I have a few other issues from different months. I enjoy reading these but they are difficult to find.
This is a four page catalog of promotional items. The kit also includes a price sheet. Some interesting things in here. Jackets were $7.95. Official stop watch $15. Sunglasses $11.50.
Cool jacket.
More swag.
Includes the fairly common 1970 11x11 Scat Pack brochure.
Unfortunately my kit doesn't include the Performance Parts Catalog. I'm guessing since it was fairly early in the model year they weren't yet available, so this guy got a promise to send one. I wonder if he ever got it?
1969 1/2 A12 Superbee Brochure
This is an 8 1/12 x 11 single sheet on light card stock. Notice the staple hole in the upper left hand corner. I'm assuming there was some sort of letter attached.
The A12 cars weren't in the regular '69 Coronet brochure as they came out later in the model year. To my knowledge this is the only sales literature available for them, and it is dealer only. I'm told there is something similar for the Roadrunner but I've never seen one.
1971 Japanese Dodge Brochure
This is a rare piece. The cover picture is just about the coolest I've ever seen, with a black R/T. The brochure measures about 9x11, and is 6 pages plus two foldouts. The text is Japanese, and the brochure was printed by Chrysler International.
I've never seen this picture in any other brochure. Note the factory spoiler and dual whitewall tires.
This is one of the foldout pages. These pictures are in the regular '71 Challenger brochure.
Check out the beautiful S/E Charger. Absolutely stunning in this color/trim combination. Again, I've never seen either of these pictures in any other brochure.
Cases of 1970 Chrysler/Plymouth Brochures
Many years ago a friend gave me a case of 1970 Chrysler brochures. I thought they were cool, but remember wishing that it was a case of '70 Cuda brochures instead. Well.......... Jackpot! Just a few years ago I came across this little jewel. About 100 Belvederes, 50 Cudas, and 15 Wagons.
These are the boxes they came in.
Helm Inc. of Detroit was the printer. It would appear from the shipping lables that Helm had an exclusive distribution center for Mopar literature. One case was sent to a Midwest dealer, the other to a west coast dealer, but interesingly they shipped on the same date- 11/25/69
Each was part of a much larger order (10 and 15 pieces respectively) weighing several hundred pounds each.
Now if I can only get a case of '69 Chargers and '70 Challengers!
1970 Canadian Dodge/Plymouth Data Book
This is a 1970 Dodge/Chrysler/Fargo "Fast Facts" book. To those of us in the lower 48, we would refer to this as a "data book". It's the book the salesperson would use to show the prospect the various models, trim levels, options, etc.
Interestingly, in the Canadian market Dodge was sold with Chrysler, so this book also includes Chrysler and Imperial. The edge of the binding says "CHRYSLER FAST FACTS DODGE".
The other major difference between this and the U.S. versions is what appears to be a much greater emphasis on high performance vehicles, which are featured prominently throughout.
It has a tabbed section for each model, with 20-25 pages for each.
Some Charger options.
Challenger section. When was the last time you saw a Challenger R/T convertible with wire wheel covers?
Challenger R/T
Some options for the Challenger. The top right illustration shows the proper operation of the "speed shifter"
This is from the tabbed "Engineering" section
Also from "Engineering"
Each tabbed section has many pages of codes and option availability for the various models.
The book even includes a color chart, and a rather crude black and white trim selector. I also have the Canadian '69 Dodge/Chrysler book and the '70 Plymouth
1971 Dodge Dealer Postcard Kit
For those of you who collect postcards, this is how they came to the dealership. It looks just like a shoebox. However, lift the lid.......
.... and you see several hundred postcards. The dealers could order them with blank backsides, or for a little extra money could get the dealer's name and address printed on the back. Several years ago I traded a 1974 360 air cleaner for this kit. These are pretty rare.
Here are samples of the postcards in the kit. I estimate there are something like 100 of each.
1970 Chrysler-Plymouth Division Announcement Advertising and Dealer Planning Book
This is a real gem. It includes several smaller booklets. I also have the 1969 book which I will try to feature some time in the future.
There is a Plymouth and a Chrysler National Advertising booklet. These feature ad samples and a media schedule.
There is a pouch holding holding the ad samples.
You've probably seen these ads before
Cool Ad
This is the media schedule for Plymouth advertising.
The local advertising book has all kinds of ideas for local promotions (some bordering on the bizarre e.g. the Imperial "father-daughter" promotion and a suggested letter to send to couple who have just announced their engagement), and suggested radio scripts for local radio ads.
This is the coolest booklet in the binder. There is one of these for Chrysler also. It includes a lot of really neat material.........
Color ad mats......
MANY pages of traditional ad mats.......
A record of theme music......
Billboard samples for the Barracuda, Duster 340, and Sport Fury........
Suggestions for window art.
1970 Dodge Announcement Kit
Without question one of my favorite items. This is the original mailing envelope.
Inside the envelope is this large 12x16 folder. The folder includes a TV advertising schedule, print ad samples for cars and trucks, and a bunch of order forms for things such as envelope stuffers, sales literature, matchbooks, etc.
The folder is full of cool items......
....including this large Sales Promotion Material Catalog. I have pictures of the various pages below.
Promo models, data books, sales literature, and the Scat Pack Club. In the upper left is the showroom color and upholstery display board. Around 1999 I saw one of these on Ebay that was very nice. I can't imagine what it would be worth.
Dodge News Magazine, matchbooks, sugar packets (with a 440 Six Pack Challenger on the packet), thrill shows, and wall posters.
This page includes "Dandy Dick Landy", Scat Pack racing jackets and shirts, and info about Dodge's sports advertising.
Envelope stuffers (The '70 version is very rare). 1,000 of them would cost the dealer $40. The postcard kit is also featured. I have a complete set (box FULL of cards) for '71.
Ahhhhh- the holy grail- Scat Pack Performance Center. My wife wouldn't like it, but if I had one it would be set up in the house! I think Juliano might have had one of these.
The kit also has samples of all of Dodge's print advertising for 1970.
I couldn't resist showing the literature order form. As you can see, Challenger and Charger brochures were .20 each. What more can I say?
Foreign Brochures
For the last few years, I have been focusing on non-U.S. market brochures. Here is a sample of just how diverse Ma Mopar was when it comes to literature. On the left is the standard '69 Dart U.S. market brochure. On the right is the commonly seen Canadian brochure.
On the left here is a Spanish language version printed by Chrysler International. On the right is the French Canadian version printed by Chrysler Canada.
The one on the left here was printed by Chrysler Benelux and is in Dutch. I also have one that looks exactly like this, but printed in Swedish. The one on the right is printed by AMAG, who distributed Chrysler vehicles in Germany. It is printed in German.
So, just when you think you have everything......
Chrysler Produced Some Beautiful Annual Reports
The '56-58 are especially cool. While containing a great deal of (to some) boring financial data, they also had some great pictures of the factories and cars that didn't show up in the sales literature.
This is from the '58 annual report, which shows the '59 cars. Note the severe testing of the swivel seats.
Of all my Mopar literature, this might be my favorite picture. It shows the '58 model lineup in the "true horizon" styling showroom of the Engineering Styling and Design Building. Why would anyone buy a GM product in '58?
Looking like it is straight out of the beginning of "Christine" (I know- that was a '58), these '59's are getting the finishing touches.
NOS 1970 Dodge Color and Trim Selector
This box was sealed when I got it, and the trim selector has only been out three times.
The shipping box.
Edge of the shipping box.
When I bought this, I had a chance to buy the matching data book, also in the unopened original box. I was a moron, and passed on it as I already had a (slightly) used data book. Definitely one of my more stupid literature moves.
If you've been around trim selectors, you know the paint samples are often warped or stuck together. Not these.
1968 Dodge Press Kit
The kit consists of 5 folders, one for each model line. Each folder has some glossy black and white photos, and several sheets of press release information specific to that model.
