My early Chargers. The car on the left is '66 Charger in Light Yellow. The '67s include the original shipping boxes as seen in the background. The car in the middle is Bright Red, and Medium Blue on the right. I've also seen these in Tiger Gold, Medium Copper, Dark Green, Bermuda Turquoise (exceptionally rare) and White.
Boxed '67 Charger promos are not common. I've seen 12 auctioned on Ebay in the past 7 years.
These came from the estate of a former Dodge dealer in Illinois (Evanston Dodge City in Evanston). They have never been played with and probably have only been out of the box a few times. Original tissue and decals included. Exceptionally nice promos.
'68 Chargers also came in Green (super dark- almost looks black in photos), yellow, and red. I've only seen one red car with a box since I've been doing this. Green seems to be the most common. Oddly no Blue for '68 Chargers or Coronets. Also of note is that with the exception of a very small handful of 1970 Challengers (and maybe Chargers?), 1968 was the last year for white Dodge promos.
The bronze car has a paint blemish on the side that appears to be from the factory. Paint blemishes are not uncommon on painted MPC promos. I've also seen '69 Chargers in Yellow, Blue, and Turquoise.
This Coronet came from a guy in Switzerland. It's one of my nicest cars. Mint box, mint stickers, mint tissue, mint car. I've also seen these in Red, Olive Green, Yellow, Bronze, and Turquoise.
I traded a bunch of Ford press kits for the Go Mango and Banana cars. The Plum Crazy car came with a '72 Challenger shipped in the same package. When the package showed up on my doorstep one side of it was crushed. You can imagine my trepidation and sense of doom as I peeled it open. Thankfully the '72 Challenger was destroyed, not this car. Other colors for '70 Challengers are Brite Red and Brite Blue. I've also seen only one in White with the original box.
'70 Chargers were also available in Plum Crazy and Brite Red. Recently acquired the Banana car from a new friend in Geneva, Switzerland. Thanks Edward!
I wish I had more of these. A couple of them slipped through my hands recently. This is one of the nicest cars I have. Probably only been out of the box a few times. Mint box, mint stickers, mint tissue paper. '71 Challengers also came in Plum Crazy, Green Go, Brite Red, Dark Blue, and Citronyella.
Looking hard for a box for the Green Go car. '71 Chargers were also available in Citronyella, Dark Blue Metallic, and the Bobby Allison car. I own a real '71 R/T in Sherwood Green Metallic (see the "My Mopars" tab). I've always wondered why the '70 GTX and '71 Roadrunner promos came with the air grabber hood, but the '71 Chargers did not. The promos have the standard louvered hood. Also note that the '71 Challenger is "Hemi Orange" but the '71 Charger is simply "Orange".
When I got the Plum Crazy car some moron had affixed the Challenger stickers to it. I was quite nervous about removing them but it turned out OK.
That's a nice looking row of cars. '72 Challengers were also available in Sherwood Green, Brite Yellow, and Blue Metallic.
'72 Chargers also came in Brite Yellow and Hemi Orange.
I generally only collect cars up to '72, but somehow I ended up with these twins. They are absolutely beautiful. Quite stunning actually. Great color. '73 Chargers and Challengers are fairly common promos. They also came in Dark Amber, Light Blue, Mist Green, Lemon Twist, and Bright Red.
My only 1974 Mopar promo. Not sure how I got this. What a lame name for a color, eh? Even the box is rather weak. And those giant bumper guards on the front of '73 and '74 Mopars! Anyway, '74 Chargers were also available in Rallye Red, Deep Sherwood, Burnished Red, Lucerne Blue (another lame name), and Yellow Blaze.
